Bring Me Home "Time to Reflect"

Hey I'm back! I missed last week. Sorry! But this week I'm gonna bring it all back home. That actually makes me think more about Bob Dylan, than the topic at hand, but hey, all good stuff.

Bring Me Home

So this track is one I wrote while going through some weirdness. I was trying to decide wether or not I wanted to stay in what was my then current living situation in Logan. At the other end was the opportunity to leave the state and work as a salesman. I couldn't decide!! I remember sitting in the living room of the our former Alpine home on 191 W Center St. and writing the first lyrics. "I'm growin fast, like a seed in the soil of a brand new spring sunshine." The idea of starting something completely new meshed so well with the changing season, and my current situation. This came out in that lyric.

This was one of the last tracks to be written for the album. I had spent tons of time with some of the finest musicians I know, and thereby felt very inspired by their music. You see, at the time, 3 of us were all working on each others albums. The Yaks (fellows from Deadtooth), Matt Weidauer (from Mr. India), and mine. I asked Matt to do the drum work, cause well, he plays the meanest folk drums. I'm always amazed as I listen back on this song, at how talented Matt is, and how well those drums work for this song. This song has always been so inspiring to me, and reminded me to chase the wind from time to time.

The decision was made, sales job it was, and to Boston I went. I did so bad. I felt I had left behind so much. I felt like I was dying on those hard streets, listening to the sound of gunshots, while I felt everyone was flourishing in the beautiful farms of Utah listening to the wind in the trees.

After a while of doing my best to stay true to what I had decided to do, my manager suggest I go home and enjoy the rest of my summer. He commended me on my efforts, but even he could see the light come to my face upon realizing I would soon be going home.

Home is a wonderful concept, and it is something we all seek to have.

My dear brother and his wife were there with me, and had bought me a giant birthday cake, knowing that I would be away from home during my birthday. As fate would have it, I ended up getting a flight that would get me home a few days before my birthday. But I WAS so touched as we shared giant chocolate cake anyway, and celebrated my going home :) I couldn't have been more happy and relieved to be going home.

This song took new meaning for me as I served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. A lot of the same feelings and experiences, only multiplied by 100. Haha I reflect often on these experiences, and am SO glad that I am home. Also, I look forward to my next venture. I know it will be amazing. I will come to appreciate home all the more. I know that if I leave, there will always be loved ones here to "Bring Me Home"

Deja Vu (Valentines Song)

So this week, it being Valentines day.. week.. I decided to post this video my brother Johnny and I did a couple years back. Perhaps you remember it?? Perhaps you don't. Either way, I love you all, and I'm not as concerned this year about not having a "valentine" as I was in this video.. haha so don't feel bad, things are great!!

To all those who have found themselves worrying this year about Valentines Day. Ha please don't worry this week about whether or not you "have a Valentine" just be there for whoever needs you to be :) be a light for others and help lift people up. It's a season of love, which is selfless. Don't sulk and get mad at stuff! Just find something positive to do, with positive people and don't worry whether or not they or you might get the wrong impression like you "love" them or something. Just enjoy it :) I will do the same!

Love, (your valentine)

NEW SONG!!!! "You & Me"

This weeks post concerns some current music! Some might call that new music! I'm both happy and proud to present to you, "You & Me" by Written and performed by Parker Edwards and Willy Eklof. Produced by Parker.

You might be thinking to yourself.. "You and I, you mean?" Well without spoiling all the hidden gems of significance here, I WILL take the liberty of going throught the title a bit :) "you and me" BECAUSE it's incorrect.. It was intentional. I love this title because it really does a fantastic job explaining the song with out even trying. That's all I'll say about that, I'll leave the rest up to your imagination.

I think the reason this is such a deep expressive piece, is because of the process by which it came to be. I love this story. Parker and I sat down to just go over some tracks and potentially brainstorm ideas for tracks that he'd been developing. An hour or two and a Beto's meal later, I just grabbed his electric guitar and started explaining what pinch harmonics (squeelies) are. Then, something magical and marvelous happened. We were running it through his mixer, and due to the need for heavy distortion in order to properly execute a good squeely, Parker went to adjust it and the delay came on by accident. Almost instantaneously I plucked a harmonic and he started the delay. This amazing sounding loop grew and developed as Parker masterfully tweaked and adjusted the mixer he's become so familiar with. From that sprung the entire song, lasting a record length for me of (6:30) the version above, being only a cut of the original. We wrote it and produced it in about 2 hours, and I couldn't be happier  with the way this song makes me feel. It's definitely a vibe song to me. And it calms me down. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I do. Please share thoughts or feelings or questions or anything that comes to you as you listen. Huge thanks to Parker and his awesomeness! Be on the watch for more from him!! Until next week! -Willy Sunshine
